World Mosquito Day 2024

World Mosquito Day, observed on August 20, marks Sir Ronald Ross’ discovery in 1897 that female Anopheles mosquitoes are responsible for transmitting malaria to humans. This discovery has been instrumental in understanding the transmission and life cycle of malaria, leading to groundbreaking treatments.

The Malaria Research and Reference Reagent Resource Center (MR4), part of BEI Resources, supports malaria research by providing malaria parasites, mosquito vectors and associated biological and molecular reagents to the scientific community.
