Isolates and Proteins of Recent SARS-CoV-2 Variants

The BEI Resources collection of SARS-CoV-2 materials includes over 40 isolates representing 7 of the 9 variants now classified by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as Variants Being Monitored, as well as the Variant of Concern (VOC), Delta (also referred to as B.1.617.2 and AY lineages), which remains the dominant SARS-CoV-2 variant circulating in the United States.1,2,3

Available Delta variant isolates (NR-55671 and NR-55672) originated in the United States and contain characteristic mutations of the Spike (S) glycoprotein, including T19R, D614G in the N3 loop of the S1 region, L452R and T478K in a key antigenic region of the receptor binding domain (RBD), P681R at the furin cleavage site, D950N in the heptad repeat region of the S2 domain, and two deletions, 156del and 157del in the N-Terminal Domain (NTD).1,2,3

In addition to isolates, the BEI Resources catalog contains nearly 40 recombinant forms of the SARS-CoV-2 S glycoprotein and RBD, key targets for vaccine development efforts and diagnostic and surveillance measures.4  This expansive S protein collection includes recently added Alpha (NR-55277), Beta (NR-55278), Delta (NR-55614) and Theta (NR-55633) variants. The purity, concentration and functional activity are detailed on the individual Certificates of Analysis, along with mutations present in the S glycoprotein as compared to the SARS-CoV-2 reference sequence.

A full, up-to-date listing of all currently available and upcoming SARS-CoV-2 isolates and proteins, as well as genomic RNA, monoclonal antibodies, plasmids, peptide arrays and inactivated virus preparations, is available on the SARS-CoV-2 resource page on the BEI Resources website.

BEI Resources will continue to make available variants as they emerge, with the intent of having each variant well represented. Requests continue to be fast-tracked and prioritized, with an anticipated turnaround window of 12-to-72 hours for new SARS-CoV-2 registrations and 24-to-48 hours for shipments of new orders. For more information on the ordering process and how to register, please refer to our Frequently Answered Questions or contact Customer Care at contact@beiresources.org.
