H5N1 Influenza virus Isolate Coming Soon

This isolate is temporarily exempt from select agent regulations as per Federal Select Agent Program: https://www.selectagents.gov/sat/exemptions/avian-influenza.htm

A multi-state outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) A(H5N1) bird flu in dairy cows was initially reported on March 25, 2024. This marks the first time that these avian influenza viruses have been detected in cattle.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed one human HPAI A(H5N1) clade 2.3.4.4b infection which occurred in an individual with exposure to dairy cattle in Texas that were presumed to be infected with the virus.1,2 Although such transmission is considered rare, this case represents the first likely mammal-to-human transmission of the HPAI A(H5N1) bird flu virus.

BEI Resources is offering an H5N1 influenza virus isolate, originating from the recent cattle outbreak in the United States. Derivative products including genomic RNA and gamma-irradiated lysate will also be available soon.
