ARP-160 is a human T-cell line, HUT 78, infected with Simian immunodeficiency virus (SIVmac251). HUT 78 is a mature human cutaneous T-cell lymphoma derived from the peripheral blood of a patient with Sezary syndrome.
ARP-160 was derived from HUT 78 cells co-cultivated with splenocytes from a macaque that died of a malignant lymphoma 26 months following inoculation with minced tissue from a spontaneous Macaca mulatta lymphoma.
Growth Characteristics: ARP-160 has a lymphocytic morphology that grows in suspension. Split the cells at 1:3 every three days. Virus production is dramatic when first reseeded, but then decreases. Aliquots of early passage virus should be collected and stored in liquid nitrogen.
Note: Cell viability of ARP-160 increases when co-cultured with uninfected HUT 78 cells (ARP-89).
Propagation Medium: RPMI 1640 supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum ARP-160 is negative for mycoplasma, bacteria and fungi. Each vial of ARP-160 contains approximately 4 x 106 cells in RPMI 1640 supplemented 40% fetal bovine serum and 10% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO).
