Plasmodium yoelii yoelii 17XA was cloned by dilution into mice; Date of cloning: Dec. 20, 1971, Cloner: S. Morgan.

The original thicket-rat (Thamnomys rutilans) 17X containing P. y. yoelii was caught by I. Landau, sent to Paris, France, then Edinburgh (1969). It was passaged into mice.

Clone 17XA showed resistance to chloroquine (LD50s not known).

This item is host restricted and must be amplified in rodents.
