T. brucei subsp. rhodesiense, strain KETRI 2538 was obtained by Professor C. J. Bacchi from the Kenya Trypanosomiasis Research Institute (KETRI) strain bank at Mugaga, Kenya. This strain has shown resistance to arsenical drugs, DL-a-difluoromethylornithine, diminazene, melarsoprol and pentamidine but susceptibility to melarsen oxide and suramin.

Each vial of NR-46435 contains approximately 0.5 mL of trypanosome infected blood with 20% glycerol, 6.25% Yaeger's anticoagulant and Trypanosome dilution buffer.
