The mosquito species complex Anopheles gambiae M form strains may also be referred to as Anopheles coluzzii, since a new species designation for these strains has been proposed. Anopheles gambiae, strain 4ARR is homozygous for pink eye (p1) and red eye (r1) but is polymorphic for collarless; it is fixed for 2L+a, Xag and standard chromosome 3, but polymorphic for 2Rbc; pale orange eye color; contains a low frequency of a melanotic mutation; shows normal development of most Plasmodium oocysts.

MRA-121 contains a suitable number of eggs to establish a stock. Eggs are provided on damp filter paper and should be hatched immediately upon receipt.

Applications for MRA-121 include mapping of Plasmodium oocyst encapsulation genes.
