Amblyomma americanum (A. americanum) colony was established from adult ticks collected from vegetation in 2003 in Georgia, USA.

This A. americanum colony may contain endosymbiotic Coxiella sp.. The mitochondrial genome of a representative A. americanum colony has been sequenced (GenBank: NC_027609).

A. americanum is an arthropod vector competent for transmitting the following pathogens: Ehrlichia chaffeensis, Ehrlichia ewingii and Panola Mountain ehrlichial agent.

NR-42514 contains a live, wild-type A. americanum adult tick. Registrants may order up to 100 (50 males and 50 females) adults. Note: A. americanum can also be obtained in larval (NR-44123) or nymph stages (NR-44124).
