Extremely toxic - any exposure may be fatal! Exercise caution! Do not lyophilize!Quantity limit per order for this item is 1. This item can be ordered twice a year. Orders over this limit will be sent to NIAID for approval before shipment.NR-742 was isolated from Ricinus communis (R. communis) seeds and purified by ion exchange chromatography. The signal sequence was cleaved from the protein and the expected molecular weight is 60.2 kDa. The sequence for the R. communis gene for the ricin toxin precursor protein has been reported (GenBank: XP_002534649).
Ricin toxin is a glycoprotein isolated from the seeds of R. communis, the castor bean plant. Ricin toxin consists of two polypeptide chains, A and B, linked by a disulfide bond. The A chain catalytically inactivates the eukaryotic 28S ribosomal RNA subunit, resulting in the inhibition of protein synthesis and death of the cell. The B chain is responsible for receptor binding and delivery of the toxin to the target cell.
Each vial of NR-742 contains approximately 1 mg of ricin toxin suspended in phosphate buffered saline (PBS).
