The complete genomic sequence of monkeypox virus, Zaire 79 has been determined (GenBank: DQ011155). NR-21738.1 is similar to NR-2324 except that the production method was modified in order to obtain a more concentrated and higher titer virus.

Each vial contains approximately 1 mL of clarified and concentrated cell lysate and supernatant from African green monkey cells (MA-104 Clone 1; BEI Resources NR-595; also available as ATCC ® CRL-2378.1™) infected with monkeypox virus, Zaire 79.

Vaccination is recommended for laboratory staff manipulating vaccinia, monkeypox, or cowpox viruses [CDC/NIH Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories, 5th ed, 2009].
