Bacillus anthracis (B. anthracis), ASC 162 (Ames) was derived in 1989 from the original Ames strain isolated from a cow in Texas in 1980.

B. anthracis, ASC 162 (Ames) was deposited as penicillin sensitive, γ-phage sensitive and capsule positive.

The presence of pXO1 and pXO2 in NR-36094 has been confirmed by PCR amplification of plasmid-specific sequences from extracted DNA.

Each vial contains approximately 0.7 mL of bacterial culture in Tryptic Soy broth supplemented with 10% glycerol.
Citations: Acknowledgment for publications should read "The following reagent was obtained through BEI Resources, NIAID, NIH: Bacillus anthracis, Anthrax Strain Collection (ASC) 162 (Ames), NR-36094."
