Burkholderia pseudomallei (B. pseudomallei), strain NCTC 4845 (also referred to as strain S. 397, ATCC ® 15682™, NRRL B-1112 and CCEB 472) was isolated from a laboratory monkey with a natural infection in Singapore, 1935, by C. S. Brindle and S. T Cowan of the National Collection of Type Cultures (NCTC). NCTC is currently operated by the Health Protection Agency, United Kingdom (Public Health England).

B. pseudomallei, strain NCTC 4845 is also available as BEI Resources NR-25. NR-25 was derived from ATCC ® 15682™, which was obtained from W. C. Haynes of the Northern Regional Research Laboratory (NRRL) Agricultural Research Service Collection as Pseudomonas pseudomallei, NRRL B-1112. NRRL received the material from the National Collection of Type Cultures in 1950 as Pfeiferella pseudomallei, NCTC 4845.

Each vial contains approximately 0.7 mL of bacterial culture in 0.5X Tryptic Soy broth supplemented with 10% glycerol.
