BALB/c mice were immunized with salivary gland membranes from Aedes aegypti (A. aegypti), strain Liverpool Black Eye mosquitoes. Spleen cells were fused with Sp2/0 mouse myeloma cells. This reagent was authenticated by the contributor and tested for mycoplasma.

Each vial of MRA-253 contains approximately 0.5 mL of hybridoma cells (5 × 106 cells/mL) in cell culture medium supplemented with 10% dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO).

Hybridoma 10C8 produces monoclonal antibody (isotype IgG1) which binds preferentially to the distal lateral lobe of female and male A. aegypti salivary glands; it also recognizes ovaries and midgut tissue. The 10C8 antibody does not cross-react with salivary glands of Anopheles gambiae but does cross-react with salivary glands of Culex pipiens mosquitoes. Applications for the antibody include immunofluorescence and Immuno-Dot Blot assays.
