Ricin toxin is a glycoprotein isolated from the seeds of Ricinus communis (R. communis), the castor bean plant. The sequence for the R. communis gene for the ricin toxin precursor protein has been reported (GenBank: X03179). Ricin toxin has a molecular weight of approximately 63,000 daltons. NR-721 reacts with polyclonal antibody to recombinant ricin A chain as determined by radioimmunoassay. NR-721 is active in an in vitro cell-free protein synthesis inhibition assay, an in vitro cytotoxicity assay using human lymphoma cells, and an in vivo toxicity assay in mice.

Each vial of NR-721 contains approximately 10 mg of ricin toxin suspended in 0.2 M sodium acetate buffer (pH 3.5).
