If I'm already registered with another NIH repository or for agents, do I need to complete a full registration with BEI Resources?
Yes. The registration processes for different NIH programs are separate. However, you may be able to use some of the same documents for BEI Resources registration as you did for other applications, such as your CV and Scope of Use.

How long does it take to process a registration application and when can I order materials?
The amount of time required to process an application for registration depends upon the level of registration being sought. Please allow 2-3 weeks after delivery of your registration package for processing. Registration for Level 3 items may require additional time for processing. Missing, incomplete or inaccurate information and documents can extend processing time. Once your application has been reviewed and approved by NIAID, we will notify you by email with information on how to proceed with accessing your online account for the purposes of placing your order.

Where can I find sequence information for a particular item?

Many of the organisms offered through BEI Resources have been or are in the process of being sequenced. If an item does not have the sequence information available on the item detail page (found as a link in the comments section), it may still be in progress. We continuously add sequence information as it becomes available to us. Please check back with us or let us know if you have a sequence we can link to a strain in our catalog.

Does BEI Resources have a process to protect the intellectual property (IP) of depositors?
Yes. Each registrant must sign a general material transfer agreement as part of the registration process, and recipients must agree to a letter of transfer for each shipment. These documents address IP issues for the materials.

Is it possible to add more people to my initial institution registration who can be allowed to order materials?
Registration with BEI Resources is per the individual researcher and not the organization, department or laboratory. This means that each researcher who would like to obtain our materials will need to register with us and submit their own registration paperwork. It also means that we cannot add to or use paperwork from previously processed registration paperwork. So if you would like to have more people register with us to have access to our materials, you are free to do so, they will just need to complete their own registration packets and send it in for processing.
